Little Scholars Nursery

Our Approach

  

At Little Scholars Nursery, our small size is our strength. We provide a warm, welcoming “home from home” where every child feels known, cared for, and valued as an individual.


Our close‑knit community enables strong key person relationships and small group experiences, so learning can be tailored to each child’s interests, needs, and pace. Our curriculum is play‑based, ambitious and inclusive, supporting every child to develop curiosity, language, independence and resilience across all areas of learning and development.


We are an inclusive setting where every child is treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. Children are encouraged to listen to others, share, and celebrate what makes each person unique, helping them grow into caring and confident members of their community. We actively adapt our environment, routines and teaching so that children with different abilities, communication styles and sensory needs can participate, feel successful and thrive.


Our philosophy is founded on mutual respect, diversity and purposeful play, nurturing children’s curiosity, confidence and sense of belonging in an ever‑changing world. We celebrate diversity and teach acceptance by creating an environment where each child feels seen, heard and valued for who they are. Children are supported to appreciate differences in culture, language, ability and belief, helping them grow into empathetic, open‑minded individuals who contribute positively to their communities.


Respectful relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our practitioners model fairness, kindness and active listening, promoting an environment where children learn to express their feelings, share ideas and resolve disagreements peacefully. Every interaction—whether during play, care routines or conversation—is seen as an opportunity to build emotional resilience, social skills and moral awareness.


Play‑based learning is the cornerstone of our approach. Through play, children explore the world, test ideas and develop independence in thinking and problem‑solving. Practitioners sensitively balance child‑led exploration with moments of explicit teaching, gentle guidance and purposeful dialogue to extend children’s thinking, language and understanding.


We believe in preparing children not just for school, but for life, by nurturing curiosity, independence and confidence. Learning at Little Scholars is joyful and dynamic: children are encouraged to explore ideas, take appropriate risks, and persevere when things feel tricky, developing the confidence, resilience and independence that prepare them for their next steps.

We recognise each child’s unique potential and provide just the right level of challenge to help them grow. Through high‑quality interactions, thoughtful questioning and purposeful play, we extend children’s thinking, communication and problem‑solving skills.


We recognise the importance of partnership with parents and families as co‑educators. By fostering open, two‑way communication—through daily feedback, shared learning updates and planned discussions—we build consistency and trust between home and nursery, creating a strong foundation for each child’s learning journey.

How children learn

  • Practitioners extend children’s thinking with rich language, purposeful questions and      encouragement, making every moment a learning opportunity.

Working with families

  

  • Parents and carers are viewed as partners, with regular, two‑way communication to support each child’s wellbeing, progress and next steps in learning.
  • Together, home and nursery create a consistent, nurturing foundation that helps children feel secure, understood and ready to learn.
  • Families are invited to share their knowledge, culture and ideas, strengthening the bridge between home experiences and nursery life.
